About David Horowitz (Spencer’s Boss)

David Horowitz was born on January 10, 1939 in Forest, Hills, N.Y. and is an ex-Marxist convert to Neo-Conservatism, a history which is interesting in and of itself but a distraction from the main theme of this page, though for those interested please read, David Horowitz’s Long March by Scott Sherman of the Nation Magazine.

Horowitz is the growing anti-Muslim movement’s “premier promoter.” He not only funds JihadWatch, (paying Robert Spencer $132, 537 for blogging) but has also directed anti-Muslim campaigns such as “Islamofascism Awareness Week“, which brought leading Muslim-bashers to more than a hundred college campuses in October 2007.

He is a prolific builder of far right institutions and organizations. Sourcewatch lists his affiliations as, David Horowtiz Freedom Center (DHFC), Center for the Study of Popular Culture, FrontpageMag, Discover the Networks, Encounter Books, Individual Rights Foundation, Wednesday Morning Club, Matt Drudge Defense Fund, and Students for Academic Freedom.

Horowitz’s website, FrontPage Magazine, features the anti-Muslim movement’s leading writers and thinkers and links to other anti-Muslim sites, essentially casting Horowitz in the dubious role of “chief publicist of the Islamophobic movement.”

As pointed out by FAIR’s “Smearcasting” document, FrontPage Magazine “has been exposed for inaccuracy by, among other outlets, the New Yorker magazine–4/14/08.”

But David Horowitz is more than a promoter and publicist of Islamophobia, he is also a participant in the anti-Muslim movement. He has written and contributed to a whole host of publications and venues, including his own on the topic of Islam and Muslims.

In one Fox appearance (5/9/08), he linked Muslim student associations on college campuses across the U.S. to the “terrorist Jihad against the West”:

“The point here is that there are 150 Muslim students’ associations, which are coddled by university administrations and treated as though they were ethnic or religious groups, when they are political groups that are arms of the Muslim Brotherhood, which is the fountainhead of the terrorist jihad against the West.”

No doubt the students are part of the “between 150 million and 750 million Muslims” Horowitz claims “support a holy war against Christians, Jews and other Muslims” (Columbia Spectator, 10/15/07).

During a speech at the University of California at Santa Barbara, Horowitz accused students wearing green in support of the schools’ Muslim Student Association of supporting Hamas, and students wearing Arab Keffiyehs of honoring Yassir Arafat and terrorism (Santa Barbara Independent, 5/15/08).

Horowitz has been most vocal on the Israel-Paelstine conflict which leads to him stepping on many Islamophobic land mines. Horowitz is on the record stating that “Palestinians are Nazis,” and blames them for any violence or conflagration in the region. He links the secular PLO to “Islamic radicalism.”

David Horowitz is an important pillar in the cottage industry of Islamophobia, making sure that the wheels of hate are well-oiled and moving. By creating and erecting the new enemy, Islam and Muslims, he ensures that his institutions will be continously funded and that neo-Conservatism will remain a powerful force in the American political landscape.

  1. You MUST remove the Chi-Rho symbol from the header! This is a symbol used by our catholic neighbors who are usualy on the side of muslims, standing against islamophobia. The use of this symbol next to these hate filled people featured on the site is VERY dissrespectful. To someone who doesnt know, it would imply that catholics suport this kind of hate filled nonsence. Please do not dissrespect our catholic neighbors!

    • Get us a letter from your Catholic neighbors that condemn the usage of this symbol by Robert Spencer and that condemn his anti-Muslim bigotry and we will remove it. We make no statements on this site to impugn Catholics or Catholicism. We do not use the cross either. This sign is not a dogmatic symbol like the cross but a historical one originating with the warrior emperor Constantin for whom it symbolized “conquering.” It was used by Robert Spencer on JihadWatch to symbolize the same meaning.

      • I was baptized and raised Catholic, went through Catholic grade school, high school, and three years of Catholic university. I am not a practicing Catholic, but I respect and admire many things about Catholics and Catholic history — many things, but not all things. The Catholic Church, under poor, weak, or corrupt leadership at various times and places has committed inhuman acts of historical significance. But that does not define its entire role in history, only in the minds of those convinced of its evil nature. The chi-ro symbol is inappropriate is association with Robt. Spencer and his beliefs, and to defend its association with him because he used it is to defend, and align oneself with, Spencer’s logic, thought processes, bigotry, and emotional state of mind.

  2. I am sorry to write off-topic here but could you please e-mail me menj? I want to ask you about the building on Noorullah online!

  3. Your ignorance is astounding. The Pax Cross is a sign of peace. It’s been used by many movements for good or ill, but to attribute it to one specific movement is incompetent. It’s a universal sign of peace.

  4. With regards to the recent Norway Oslo terrorist attacks, not only do Spencer, Geller, and others need to be held accountable for their indirect involvement. David Horowitz also needs to be held accountable for this as well, since he is the one who is the chief promoter of anti-Muslim anti-Islam bigotry in the first place.

    • Have you read his website? Or just the general assessment of people who do not like him very much? Is he a bad person? Who are you to judge his intentions?

  5. One should wonder why people get this way. There has to be a stimuli that provokes such an “Islamophobic” response of disapproval. And why Islam? If one is not willing to analyze the roots of this problem, how can one analyze the symptoms much less find a solution. No one will benefit from bashing and destructive criticism. It is a waste of energy for all parties involved.

  6. Islam cannot tolerate criticism, the first thing it does is call for murder when some one is critical.

    • Actually, the first thing Islam calls for is to testify and believe that there is only one God.

Murder for blasphemy is not in the 5 pillars, yet Islamophobes such as yourself believe it is an essential part of Islam. The history of Islam also contradicts your claim — there are 4 different schools of thought and all of them are accepted. Differences of opinion on many matters ranging from war and government to prayer and marriage are allowed and tolerated.

      • This seems to be because the Koran is rather wishy-washy. sometimes it speaks of peace, sometimes it is filled with hate and violence towards “infidels”. it would be impossible for just one belief system to come out of it. History, on the other hand, can speak for itself. During and after the final years of Muhammad’s life, there was a jihad to more or less conquer the world. they managed to take the middle east, north africa, and parts of southern Europe. they lost Europe (which they managed to conquer up to central France), but kept the rest, where the non-Muslims were oppressed (and in many of those places still are) and were forced to convert. Jihad is built into the history. Now, i do NOT hate Muslims (to the contrary, I have Muslim friends) because i recognize that many/most do not want to blow stuff/people/infidels up. but just think about it: radical Christians try to spread their religion through word-of-mouth evangelization and through the good works they do (now of course there is the occasional deranged nut, but that is beside the point). Radical Muslim organizations try to spread their religion through violence and intimidation. find a list of terror-acts around the world and compare the number of radical Islamists to the number of radical Christians responsible for the attacks.

  7. Whilst Robert Spencer may call himself a member of the Melkite Greek rite Catholic Church, it is important to make the point that he does not appear to speak for this faith (still the less the mainstrain American Hierarchy or the Holy See)in any official capacity any more so than the late unlamented “Tailgunner Joe” McCarthy, his acolytes William F.Buckley, Brent Bozell and Patrick Buchanan or any other whose putative dragonslayers bear an unhappy resemblance to the evil(be it Soviet Communism or Islamic violent fundamentalism)it allegedly opposes!

  8. Your first name David is a name revered honored and respected by Muhammad and his followers who speak the truth in conveying his message. Brother David, there is a lot of literature circulating in the world about Muhammad written by both sides. Those writing wrongly on Muhammad Rasulullah do so out of ignorance and prejudice. But common sense and reason demands a careful study of such criticisms in the face of the reality facing mankind. We all want a stable, peaceful and dignifying world. The West and Europe have failed to bring a solution to world instability. Why is it that Europe and West turn a deaf ear and a blind eye to those asserting that our instability is our doing (Muslims in aprticular0 and that the solution is in exactly what Muhammad did when he migrated to Madina. The Muslims will never use their wealth to correct themselves for fear of bringing stability to the world. If you want a stable world, you must use a fraction of the wealth you collect distorting the actions of Muhammad in Madina to correcting it. Note that Islam is for all and not alone for the Arabs etc. It is important to give an ear to those Muslims capable of making the world stable and peaceful.
