Calling Robert Spencer an objective analyst and scholar of Islam it turns out is like saying Danny DeVito is an NBA All-Star, the fact that he joined a group seeking to expel and kill 150 million Muslims, and that he’s willing to align with street hooligans with fascist leanings, would indicate otherwise to any sane individual.

  1. WOW!!! I had NO idea…

Now I almost feel bad for having ever thought Bobby was even a credible opponent, almost!

    Allah Bless America!

  2. Hi
    you say:

the sign allegedly created by the Christian warrior-emperor Constantine means “by the sign, conquer!”

actually this is incorrect, it means no such thing. The X P sign is very common in Christianity and is simply the first two syllables of Jesus’ name in Greek: Chi Rho. Constantine may have used it but he was not the first and countless Christians have used it without any reference to Constantine.

    • Paul,

Jesus did not speak Greek, but Aramaic. His followers also spoke Aramaic and Hebrew. So it is not possible that this sign was used by Jesus or his immediate followers. The sign was introduced later in Europe, hence the Greek letters, Chi Ro.

Scholars and historians agree that it was first introduced into Christianity by the East Roman Emperor Constantine, in a militaristic context. Constantine claimed that the symbol (a juxtaposition of the first two symbols of Jesus’ name in Greek) appeared to him as a light in the noon-day sky. At the same time, he heard the words, “In Hoc Signo Vinces” (In this sign you shall conquer). He took this as a sign from God and decided the shape drawn by the light should be an emblem for his military.

The sign existed in Greek culture before Constantine adapted it into Christianity. Indeed, it was used by pagan Greek scribes to mark, in the margin, a particularly valuable or relevant passage; the combined letters Chi and Rho standing for chrēston, meaning “good.” Some coins of Ptolemy III Euergetes were marked with a Chi-Rho. Like many other aspects of Greco-Roman culture, the symbol found its way into Europeanized Christianity.

It is true some Christians use the sign to peacefully denote Christ and we respect that and apologize if it causes them any offense. But this does not change the history of its European origins, militaristic introduction and use by Constantine, and lack of usage or familiarity to Jesus himself. Most importantly, for the purposes of this site, is its usage by Spencer. Spencer himself understands the significance and context of its link to Constantine and uses the symbol to denote a Euro-philic, Byzantine, Christian war cry, “by the sign, conquer!” That is why he used it in the context of advocating for the “liberation” of “Constantinople” after “500 years” of Muslim “occupation.”

      • Remember what the Catholic crusaders did to Constantinople in 1204!

That’s the real reason why the Ottomans so easily took over the former Byzantine lands — “better the Ottoman turban than the cap of the Catholics!”

  3. Why cant this” holy” man remember the bible verse “those that rule by the sword shall then fall by the sword”. I doubt he has touched the bible for decades

  4. As a Muslim-loving Christian I do not like associating the Chi-Rho symbol (labarum) with Robert Spencer. It is a Christian symbol, not a Islamophobic-Fascist symbol whether Spencer-twat uses it or not.

  5. this is the stupidest website ve seen….no wonder muslims can never forgive anyone..DO U KNOW THE MEANING , —LOVE UR ENEMIES?…islam means to dominate ,kill, rape…molest kids…look at what you are doin to israel….wat u doing in west,in nepal,in indonesia…are,nt u satisfied still…….ur thirst for blood…1400 yrs of jew hatred and murder…..and now because u know the robert spencer is speaking the truth u just wanted to try to cover that up…the people of america are not fools….shame on u behaving like children and creating a site by name spencer watch,,,,the no of readers for jihad watch is atleast 10,000 times more than ur site….can stand for the rights of copts in egypt?..do u hav the balls to stand for freedom of religious minorities in iran,in pakistan?…..u wont and u will never…..first of all read the bible ,,instead of throwing stones….we speak coz we read the quran….we know it is from HELL!!….u read bible and then fight for ur rights……which god will tell to kill those who leave ur religion?..except for ur pagan black stone moon god allah..!!…..anyways its a pathetic attempt to cover the truth..which will not work out…..shame shame puppy shame..!!

    • Yes we’ve read both the Bible and the Qur’an. And guess what? Only one of those books calls for the death of apostates:

      The Bible (Deuteronomy 13:6-9):
“If your very own brother…secretly entices you, saying: Let us go and worship other gods…Show him no pity. Do not spare him or shield him. You must certainly put him to death. Your hand must be the first in putting him to death, and then the hands of all the people.”

Anyway, this isn’t a Christianity vs. Islam website. It’s about opposing hatred against any minority. Robert Spencer engages in this hatred against Muslims and is a hypocrite because he criticises them for things found in his own holy book.
