It took me a while to see through the hate dressed-up as logic, on JW. I have to admit i was caught-up in the zeitgeist of it all, having lost someone close to me who was serving in Afghanistan. The whole Anti-Jihad thing. Spencer is a canny operator; he has an ability to sell an idea and make it plausible. Rather like the snake-oil salesmen of old. It was the obsequicey displayed by the bum-sniffers who bowed and scraped before him that turned me off, first of all. It didn’t take long after that to realise that JW was populated mostly by christian-fundamentalist loons all puffed-up on hate and vitriol carefully orchestrated by Spencer and Geller et al. It was a mistake to admit my Atheism and try to add balance to the obvious hyperbole contained in the threads. Spurious links to islam, gleaned from around the world and Spencers reticence to admonish commentors who laid blame at the feet of ALL muslims after he himself declared his truck was not with ALL muslims but islam itself. No fairness or clarity from the so-called moderators. Then it was the post-editing. Anything that didn’t comply; any comments of my own regarding the equivalency of the bible and the koran regarding the advocation of violence to others was removed expediently. If one reads some of the comments it is not hard to imagine a bug-eyed keyboard warrior someplace tapping-out populist nonsense against ALL muslims.

It all got too fantastical in the end and that was it. I still visit regularly and laugh my ass off, mostly. When the annoyance and irritation sets in, i’m gone, back to the real world.

I hope that my tale may encourage others who need that final push over the tipping-point to take the plunge and open their eyes to the fantasy of Robert Spencer and Jihadwatch.

@Loki, Lool, you use 2 Muslims who supposedly lie in their speeches, and conclude that “these examples are enough to prove how Taqiya is essential for practising muslims.”

Firstly, even if these two did do that, you can’t analyse a religion based on the followers. In the same way, you can’t analyse (for example) the teachings of atheism based on a few atheists.

Secondly, actually prove your preconcieved notion of Taqiya by citing scholarly references, not a Robert Spencer or Ibn Warraq book. They’re not Islamic sources. (Tip: don’t try and re-invent the wheel by trying to derrive Islamic laws yourself when you are probably not qualified to do so, as fuqaha have already derrived rules).

These are facts cannot be disputed:
1. Muslim jihadis kill non-Muslims in the name of Islam.
2. Many Muslims countries officially persecute and subjugate people of other faiths.
3. There are many passages of the Quran which seem promote these things. Many Muslim clerics unequivocally support these things.
4. Neither Muslim clerics, nor Muslim political leadership, nor the supposedly “silent majority” of Muslims seem willing or able to stop these evil things that are done in the name of Islam.
Clearly, there are fatal flaws, at the core of Islam, as reflected in the Quran, and as taught by Muslim leaders, that provide the justification for these evil things.

Dorado has nothing against the truth.

However, You have a very negative and oversimplified view of Islam, and Muslims to say the very least. The shear fact that what Spencer is saying about Muslims sounds very similar to what Nazis said about Jews ought to give you pause. There really is no good reason to believe what he says. Spencer is not what he claims to be. He is not an expert on Islam or a scholar of any kind.

I really wish I had noticed your comment much earlier. Than you’d be more likely to see mine. If you happen to see what I wrote, do yourself a favor. Research Islam outside of right wing and Objectivist circles. Go to some accredited Historians specializing in the Middle East and Islamic Studies Professors and read what they wrote on the subject. Most likely given what you wrote, you are only getting one side of the story at best, plus a bunch of half truths and outright lies.

Also do yourself a favor, and read what this website has to say about Robert Spencer’s credentials.
